There are a delightful amount of parallels between books and vaginas
So many want to control things that cannot be.
Autogynography is both a sculptural binding and a fully functional watercolor book. The book’s leather was hand-dyed to mimic skin tone, and the papers were hand-shaped and painted using gouache. The raised cord binding and constrained hinge forces one to approach the book carefully and gently coax it open if they would like to use it.
There are a delightful number of parallels between books and vaginas. We handle them with care, respect them, are at times inspired by them, and sometimes (unnecessarily) fear them. Both can play a role in creation, or not. Both are perplexingly framed as controversial. Both are subject to an inordinate number of attempts to control and restriction. Some can be alluring, while others can be, frankly, challenging. Both are wonderful in every form they take.
